Artist Statement

Biography

I was born and raised in the Detroit area and came to Colorado in 1976. I received my BFA and BAE degrees in Fine Arts and Art Education. During my early artistic career I worked in a variety of mediums, drawing, painting, clay and photography. Along with my art jobs and shows, I was also involved in teaching community workshops. It was at this time that I realized I loved to design and tailor projects to the specific needs and interests of my clients.

I also taught Art K-5 for 11 years through St. Vrain School district. During this time I also received my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Most recently, I have been doing Artists in Residences in a variety of settings. It’s always a joy to share my artistic skills with the greater community.

Artist Philosophy

My interests range from doing my own art, creating learning opportunities for others, to doing large installation pieces that seek to tap into the creative center and hearts of each participant.  I strive to create artwork that seeks to beautify, bring harmony and add meaning to the environment we share. The act of us creating together, is a powerful experience. The final installation is a reminder of what we can do when we work together in harmony.

Artistic Process

My job is to simply be open to the language of the universe. The messages can come to me in images, and at other times, in flashes of insight. Most times, when I least expect it, the ideas, the answers and the inspiration seem to magically bubble-up into my consciousness. I know it’s a good idea when my whole body resonates with excitement and harmony.

Art Educator

As a teacher, my main goal was to pass on skill sets so all of my students feel confidence in their creativity and in the artistic abilities they already possess!

Artist-in-Residence

Every environment and group of people requires a different approach. This is the fun of it all! Once an appropriate project is decided upon we all inspire each other during the creative process. I find this to be the most joyful use of my skills as an artist. Each person’s contribution is an important part of the whole.
